2024 Nobel prize in Medicine awarded to microRNA

2024 Nobel prize in Medicine awarded to microRNA - the target of RNATICS’ first-in-class inhalation therapeutic RCS-21.

Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun receive the 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine for their discovery of microRNAs. MicroRNAs are key regulators of gene expression and have evolved as important therapeutic targets.

This is a great recognition of the microRNA field and underpins its importance in modern medicine.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Stefan Engelhardt, scientific co-founder of RNATICS

RNATICS’ pioneering technology builds on this discovery and allows for targeted delivery of specific microRNA inhibitors to macrophages. Its most advanced microRNA-based inhalation therapeutic RCS-21 effectively inhibits microRNA-21 in macrophages and thereby prevents immune hyperactivation in severe pneumonia. RCS-21 currently awaits final approval for phase 1 clinical testing.
